Color again

I tried several colors on the wall, and the best was Pismo Dunes.

The other possibility is Berber White.

Renovation construction work

Mess I can expect — Yikes!

I believe the order in which to get the contractors over here is as follows:

1. Architect perhaps if I decide to move the living room door so as to make room for I's new closet.

2. Electrician. Must figure out how to add electrical outlets and cable outlets and telephone wiring in places that make sense. Pay attention to kitchen outlets for washer, for appliances, for lighting.

3a. Open the doorway in the living room so that it works for I's closet.

3. Drywaller and plasterer to put up extra walls in the living room and to plaster.

4. Painter.

5. Wood floors in kitchen/dining; repair wood in rest of the apartment.

6. Kitchen designer -- they should do the whole thing because I cannot do this job myself and not screw up.

7. Bathroom renovation. Requires extensive stuff what with mirrors and ceramic and new toilet, sink and tub, new fixtures.

8. Closet people. Want to make I. a wall of closets and put nicer closet in my room as well.

Renovation colors: final decision

OVERWHELMED
The renovation has been difficult to think about, because it is overwhelming. There is the general plan to think about and then a color scheme and so forth.

COLOR SCHEME
Walls and trim will be in these colors, then sofa throw and pillows in the Turkish pewter and the silver.

ARRANGEMENT
I'm torn between pre-planning the eventual incorporation of Igor's storage and just leaving things minimal. For now, it might be best to leave things as minimal as possible so as to enjoy the calm and quiet myself.

The house featured in Veranda here.

LIVING ROOM ARRANGEMENT
Furniture placement like this

I am hankering after a George Smith type armchair.
I also need to look for a glass cocktail table that can be elevated for dining.

DINING/COFFEE TABLE
This Zilt adjustable height table at coffeetablesgalore.com, is $1000.

This table, also at coffeetablesgalore.com, is $480.

This table from Hydra Designs has a 26 x 48 glass top, and can be adjusted from 18 to 26 inches high. Does it work as a dining table? Not sure.

This is the ELEVEN DINING COCKTAIL TABLE at Jensen-Lewis. $1077, pre-Xmas.

This 27" diameter table is for sale at Target for $160, but it has terrible reviews.

BATH EXTENSION MIRROR
Restoration Hardware, but $199!!!

Random things I like

THE ROOM AND LARGE PAINTING

I love the asymmetry and the prominence of the painting in this room by Thomas Jayne, via The New York Times.
A low-budget way to get a large painting is a website called rasterbator which takes images, allows you to crop and size them, then rasterizes them in monochrome or colour, and then gives you the image in multiple page pdf format. you can then print and put it on your wall as you see fit. site: http://homokaasu.org/rasterbator/

WALL MURAL MADE WITH RASTERBATER

David's Work in Progress via Apartment Therapy
I can do this if my tapestry is not a good fit for the living room.
OR...The photos can be enlarged by Duggal Visual Solutions at 29 W. 23rd St. Make sure you get a UV protection if you don't plan on framing with glass.

THE HIDDEN OFFICE

Cannot guess at the quality, but the Verona Cabinet Desk from WorldMarket.com is $250.

FURNITURE ARRANGEMENT

Steven Shubel is one of my favorite designers.
I cannot have white or light colors in my apartment, else I'd love this.
The way he arranged the furniture here is very good and may work in my living room.
