Above is an image of the right-hand panel of the Portinari Altarpiece, a triptych commissioned by the Bonciani family. The panel shows Maria Bonciani and her daughter Marguerite flanked by their patron saints, Saint Marguerite and Mary Magdalene. Hugo van der Goes, my favorite of the Early Renaissance Flemish artists, painted this oil on wood masterpiece in 1473-1475. It now hangs in the Galleria degli Uffizi in Florence.
