Mexico — living with bodyguards

So... I left Mexico almost twenty years ago, knowing it would become a mess.

Today, the Times reports that upper-class Mexicans are routinely employing bodyguards and using bullet-proof vehicles and even clothing.

"With drug-related violence spinning out of control and kidnappings a proven money-maker for criminal gangs, members of Mexico's upper class find themselves juggling the spoils of their status with the fear of being killed"

New York may not be a paradise — not by a long shot — but at least I can ride on public transportation freely.

Check out some of the photo essay.

Here, a woman takes her daughter to school in an armored car escorted by armed guards. That would be my life now.
